Just 700 meters from Camping Het Peelvenneke is Volkel Airbase, an interesting attraction that can add an extra dimension to your stay with us.
Volkel Airbase is one of the most important air force bases in the Netherlands and is home to F-35 fighter jets. These aircraft regularly carry out training flights and missions, so you’ll occasionally see planes flying overhead.
For aviation enthusiasts, this is a unique experience and a great addition to their stay
For aviation enthusiasts, there is a spotting area close to the airbase. From this location, you have a great view of the runway, allowing you to see the aircraft up close. It’s a fun activity for a morning or afternoon and offers a great opportunity to take impressive photos.
Volkel Airbase is open for air traffic on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:45 PM (local time). On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, you should not expect any flights.

Because these are military flights, the exact take-off and landing times, as well as the number of aircraft per “wave,” can vary from day to day.
Although the airbase is nearby, modern technology and strict flight protocols ensure there is relatively little disturbance. Most guests find the sound of the aircraft interesting and impressive. For most visitors, the sound of the planes is an interesting addition to their camping experience.
Would you like to learn more about the history of the airbase? Then visit the Heritage Room ‘Typhoon‘, the museum of Volkel Airbase. Here, you can explore the history of our region from 1940 to the present day.
The Heritage Room is open every first and third Friday of the month, from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.
